About Amanda Poise

Amanda Poise, born Amanda Santiago, was raised in the neighborhood of Bushwick in Brooklyn, NY. She embodies the essence of New York City’s artistic spirit as an accomplished actor, educator, burlesque performer, and entertainment journalist, celebrated for her natural ingenuity, curiosity, charm, and remarkable versatility.

With a Theatre Arts degree from SUNY Purchase College and LaGuardia Community College, Poise has received several accolades including the Young Alumni AwardLenora Champagne Theatre Award, and recognition as an Irene Ryan Nominee for the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival. Poise has further honed her craft through rigorous training at the renowned Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute and HB Studios. These programs have equipped her with a deep understanding of character development, emotional authenticity, and the nuances of performance.

An AEA member since 2023, Amanda Poise's extensive acting experience encompasses a variety of stage and screen roles. Previously, she has performed in A Night of Scenes at The Tank, Sun & Sea at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, Atlanta Is Burning as “Fiona” at Glimmer Globe Theater, in Cam Girl Dreamz as “Kamilah” with Baldwin Theatre Guild, including her one-woman show as “Alina” in Disgusting Is My Middle Name with Unheard Voices Productions.

On screen, Ms. Poise's work is characterized by her professional manner, coupled with her ability to make creative and bold choices that captivate audiences. This same approach defines her behind the scenes as well. Poise has been featured in Civic Duty by Pearls Daily Studios, Friends by Gubi Productions, and has adapted her production of Disgusting Is My Middle Name into a hybrid theatre/film experience. Her television credits include appearances as an extra in Survival of the Thickest (Netflix), Saturday Night Live 47 (NBC), and The Americans (FX Networks).

In addition to her performance work, Ms. Poise is an accomplished entertainment journalist, writer, and blogger focused on New York City's nightlife scene. In 2021, she developed her individual project, War In High Heels, which delves into the rich narratives within the burlesque community, capturing the evolution of this vibrant art form through personal stories set against the backdrop of the city's dynamic nightlife. As part of this project, she has served as a red carpet correspondent and live documenter for the Sin City Burlesque Festival (2023-2024), New York Burlesque Festival (2021-2024), New York School of Burlesque (2023), and Asian Burlesque Festival (2022), bringing her unique perspective and insights to these exciting events. Her mission extends beyond the local scene, aspiring to document and celebrate burlesque on a global scale.

In 2022, Ms. Poise first began her training as a burlesque performer through the New York School of Burlesque. Since then, she has graced many stages across New York, including notable venues such as DROM NYC, House of Yes, Pete's Candy Store, Kraine Theater, Under St. Marks Theater, and the NYU Skirball Center. Guided by many esteemed burlesque teachers, Poise is dedicated to elevating her artistry and advancing her craft through the art of striptease. With a passion for the theatricality and creativity inherent in burlesque, her goal is to establish herself as a professional burlesque artist, captivating audiences across seas with her unique storytelling and provocative performances.

Amanda Poise's journey as an arts educator is a significant aspect of her multifaceted career. Currently, she is pursuing her graduate studies at NYU Steinhardt, with an expected graduation in 2026. In addition to her academic endeavors, she is a dedicated educator and teaching artist, leading initiatives for selected NYC non-profit arts organizations to make arts education accessible to all. Ms. Poise has also served as a guest theatre artist for various universities and other educational settings, where she shares her expertise and inspires the next generation of artists.

Amanda Poise continues to pursue her dreams across acting, education, media, and entertainment, with numerous exciting projects in the works.
